Twirlybirds
We have these two huge maple trees along the side of our house. They are great in the Summer because we get plenty of shade, but they also shed like crazy.
This time of year, they start dropping these little seed pods. The kids call them "twirlybirds".
I personally HATE the twirlybirds because this is what our patio ends up looking like when they start falling...and this is just the beginning. Pretty soon, the whole yard will be covered in inches of this stuff.
However, the kids think they are great and they keep them entertained for hours. Seriously, today they were outside for hours trying to catch twirly birds as they fell. They were running around, trying to catch them with buckets or with their bare hands.

The girls had to stop and take some time to examine their twirlybirds.
Time for some strategic planning.
...and, they're off!
I suppose the next couple of weeks we spend cleaning up the yard of all these twirlybirds just may almost be worth the few hours of fun they have provided...almost ;) I also love how Porter is just laying in the middle of the yard like a log in all these pictures. What a life!
